In 2020 we started the complete renovation of a four storey Georgian house in Somerset. The house had fallen in to disrepair with quite significant structural issues including overloaded and rotten beams and water ingress from a leaking roof.

The entire ground floor had to be supported at basement level to enable safe removal of all the temporary supports and rotten beams. This was followed by the introduction of both steel and replacement oak beams and new load bearing walls to stabilise the house and enable the internal renovations to take place. The interior of the property had not been touched for years and much of the original Georgian detailing was still in place. This was all sympathetically restored and where missing replaced using matching mouldings.

The roof was found to be in pretty poor condition so listed building consent was obtained to replace the asbestos cement slates with good quality natural slate and conservation rooflights installed to increase the natural light in to the attic rooms.

Original elm, oak and pitch pine floors were discovered, carefully lifted and then re-laid to enable the whole house to be re-plumbed and re-wired. Floating beds with desks underneath were designed and installed to maximise the high ceilings in the children’s bedrooms and the dining room sideboard restored and converted in to an impressive cocktail bar.
